Hypnosis and self-hypnosis both make use of the power of suggestion. When a person has a problem or a goal they want results. Unless a person thoroughly understands how to use hypnosis, they are more likely to get good results when working with a licensed therapist/hypnotherapist who understands the workings of the mind and how to properly create suggestions. You will want to find someone who has experience working with your goals or problems and knows how to properly formulate the specific suggestions to address your problem or goal. But the best reason to work with a licensed, knowledgeable, hypnotherapist is so they can explain to you what hypnosis really is and how self hypnosis truly is an interwoven thread in your daily life.
Self hypnosis is the power of suggestion, specifically self suggestion or suggestions that you haphazardly or unintentionally accept. Unintentional suggestion is usually the reason people wind up with the problems they have. Most people are unaware that they are unintentionally giving themselves suggestions that they don’t want or accepting haphazard suggestions from others. But when a person understands the concept of self hypnosis they will begin to see how it is showing up in their every day lives.
Every day we talk to ourselves. We say helpful and unhelpful things. And everything we say and imagine becomes strengthened it in our mind.
Here is an example. Let’s say you want to exercise daily. You promise yourself to start tomorrow. When tomorrow comes you are tired. You say to yourself, “I don’t feel like exercising.” Then you imagine how uncomfortable we will be to dragging yourself to the gym or how sweaty and tired you will feel or how much effort it will take. Without awareness, we are using self hypnosis to stop you from exercising!
Here is a tip. Next time you are tired, but promised yourself that you would exercise, try this: Instead of telling yourself that you are tired and imagining how uncomfortable you will feel … imagine yourself finishing the exercise and tell yourself how proud you are that you are doing the things that make you feel and look better and and tell yourself that it gets easier every day to exercise and improve your health.
